[DotW] Morakniv Companion Fixed Blade Outdoor Knife

This week it’s the Morakniv Companion Fixed Blade Outdoor Knife. You will have to monitor the price on Amazon to find a deal on this knife, but one can generally be found for less than $20.00. Given that this is a pretty good all around outdoor knife, it’s generally a good deal any time.

Dollar for dollar this the Morakiv Companion is arguably the best knife for the money. Sure, it’s not an ultra tactical knife. It’s also not the ultimate bushcraft knife, camp knife, hunting knife, or even survival knife. But it is a solid all around jack of all trades knife. Because it’s generally under $20, it’s a great starter knife.

Personally, I keep one of these knives in every vehicle as a utility knife. There is also one in the tool box. It works great and I don’t worry about abusing or ruining it because it’s an inexpensive knife.

This knife is a great knife to learn and develop knife skills such as carving, to feathering, notching, skinning, quartering, and even sharpening. Like I’ve already said, it will do the job and if one ruins the knife in the learning process it’s not a big loss and can be easily replaced.

My wife will be going hunting for her first time. As such, rather than buying an expensive hunting knife, she will be carrying one of these with her to learn how to skin and quarter a deer. Sure she will have access to knives from other hunters which she will be encouraged to try in the event that she decides to go from trying out hunting to hunting regularly and wants a dedicated hunting knife.

The knife itself is sharp and holds up well. It’s light and the rubberized grip works well in wet conditions. It’s just a good knife. It does come with a plastic sheath that leaves a lot to be desired, but again at less than $20 I can’t imagine anyone would be expecting much. However, the sheath works well enough to protect and hold knife when thrown in a pack, tool box, or glove box.

So there you have it. This week’s deal is the Morakniv Companion Fixed Blade Outdoor Knife.
