Looking Forward to 2021

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out 2020 fell extremely short of being a great year for most of us. Even so, there were some highlights that I was happy to look back at. To be honest, I’m not expecting much from 2021. Nevertheless, I’m gonna share some of my goals with y’all.

My goals for hunting in 2021 are quite simple. Simply, take every opportunity to fill the freezer. I was exposed to night hunting in 2020 and that’s something I’d like to do more of soon. Unfortunately, it’s going to take some work to gear up for this and I’m not sure I’ll actually do much in this arena soon, but it’s something I’m going to continue working on.

I had big goals when it came to participating in competitions last year. I felt short on those goals mostly due to the COVID-19, the associated lockdowns, and the ammunition market. I don’t expect the ammunition market to improve so I’m going to set a small goal of competing once every other month in 2021. If somehow the ammunition market improves, I may reassess this goal sometime during the year. However, this seems like a reasonable and attainable goal at this time.

In terms of self defense, this year will be the year of “First Aid”. Ammo is scarce and expensive right now. As such, I don’t think I will be able to afford to get in the same amount of defensive training I did last year. So instead, I will shift my focus to training up on First Aid. I think that’s a very important aspect of a well rounded self defense skill set and one that doesn’t require large amounts of ammunition.

I don’t plan on adding more firearms to the collection this year. However, I’m planning on upgrading optics on existing rifles. Before that, I’m prioritizing night vision devices. Night vision devices will play a big part in hitting some of my hunting goals and I expect they will also level up self defense capabilities. Given firearms have been scarce in 2020 and I suspect that will continue to be the case in 2021, placing an emphasis on improved optics seems like a good idea. That said the unplanned addition of a firearm to the collection in 2021 isn’t inconceivable.

Those are my goals for 2021 in a nutshell. With a bit of luck and a lot of focus, I think I’ll be able to hit most of them. Of course, I’ll be blogging about those throughout the year. Stay tuned to hear about the trials and tribulations associated with that set of goals.
