I get this question a lot. I also hear it a lot. I hear customers ask it to the person behind the gun counter quite frequently. I see it posted on social media and forums. I hear it at the range. I suspect it really is just a conversation starter, but it is really a hard question for me to answer.
It’s like asking a mechanic what their favorite tool is. Or asking an artist about their favorite color. And I guess some people may have a clear favorite and may find it an easy question to answer, but I tend to be a practical guy who responds with, “well what will I be using it for?”
“What’s your favorite gun?”, is just such a vague and ambiguous question in my opinion. And I don’t even know where to begin. So I’ll attempt to answer it by sharing the firearm that I find to be most exhilarating to shoot. And that would have to be the Smith & Wesson Model S&W500 revolver.
I find shooting big bore handguns to be extremely exhilarating. And this particular revolver is about as big as they come. I really enjoy managing the heavy recoil and the ridiculous muzzle blast. I will admit that I’m not very good at shooting this powerful cartridge. I still only load one round at a time in the revolver as I still sometimes pull the trigger twice as I manage the recoil from a fired shot. Also, I can’t shoot more than three rounds or so before my hands and wrists are done. Every round fired through this revolver gets me grinning from ear to ear.
